Looking for support for an individual with developmental disabilities?
Navigating the developmental disability system can be hard for families. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) made a guide to help families understand resources, supports, and services that the Commonwealth of Virginia offers to people with developmental disabilities.
You can also visit the My Life, My Community website, an online tool that helps people with developmental disabilities (DD) and their families answer basic questions about services and supports.
DBHDS created the Individual and Family Support Program (IFSP) to help families and individuals with developmental disabilities find supports and to connect with other families. This program assists individuals with developmental disabilities and their families with accessing person-centered and family-centered resources, supports, services and other assistance. The program’s primary target population is individuals on the waiting list for Virginia’s Developmental Disabilities (DD) Medicaid waivers.
